Lesson 3

In the first of the Aseret Hadibrot G-d says: "I am the Lord your G-d who took you out of the land of Egypt." We discussed that we believe that G-d created the world and although we can't see G-d, He wants us to look for Him in every part of our daily lives.

Emunah (faith) has the same hebrew letters as Imun (training). It might take a lot of work to train our brain to look for G-d all day long, but this will keep our Emunah strong!

We had fun picking all sorts of objects from a big bag and discussing how we can see the hand of G-d in each thing. We discussed that although a farmer has to plant and water his crops, G-d is the one who makes everything grow. Our talents are a gift from G-d. Waking up in the morning is definately a miracle, especially for teenagers and moms. Doctors, who are wonderful, as long as they don't give us any shots, are really G-d's messengers to heal the sick.

In case you ever get bored you can play I spy on this scrapbook page too!

Lesson 2

It was hard to miss another beautifully wrapped box with a picture of the Luchot (Tablets) on it. After taking off all the layers of wrapping paper we found a game of Scattegories! At first we were a bit confused, but as soon as we took out our detective gear we discovered that the Aseret Hadibrot (10 Commandments) are really 10 categories of Mitzvot (commandments)!

We sure had fun dividing Lego into categories based on their color and size. We also did a great job sorting the 613 colorful popsicle sticks and dividing them into 10 containers.

Coloring half a picture could have been a challenge but after working on our own and consulting with our partners you would never guess that the pictures had been cut in half!

This taught us that we each need to work on our personal relationships with G-d and at the same time we need to help our fellow man. This is true of the Aseret Hadibrot. The first 5 are between man and G-d and the second five are between man and man.

Lesson 1

We peeled layer after layer of a huge onion until we had tears in our eyes. This helped us understand that the Torah has many deep layers to uncover and discover!

When we unwrapped the big Alef box we discovered that the letter Alef is made up of three parts. The top part represents G-d, the bottom part represents the Jewish people and the line in between represents the Mitzvot (commandments) that connect us with G-d. We made blessings on food to connect ourselves with G-d and then we counted 613 Popsicle sticks to represent the 613 Mitzvot.

Theme Song

Hang with the Ten

As you're on your way,
To the beach today,
Let us learn some history,
G-d gave us a gift,
So we wouldn’t drift,
Far off in the sea.

Many years ago,
Aseret Hadibrot,
Was the gift Hashem did give,
Up on Har Sinai,
G-d gaves rules by,
Which a Jew should live.

Aseret Hadibrot,
Represent all the Mitzvot,
Our special gift from Hashem,
So let’s hang with the ten.

Do a Chesed for a friend,
A helping hand be quick to lend,
Yes, the circle never ends,
When we hang with the ten.

When life may seem tough,
And the water’s rough,
They keep our heads above the tide,
They help us navigate,
Surfing nice and straight,
Over waves we ride.

Wherever you may roam,
Always make it Hashem’s home,
By doing mitzvot every day,
That’s the Torah way.

Positive and negative,
All the Mitzvot help us live,
They connect us with Hashem,
So let’s hang with the ten.
